Hero Xtreme 160R BS6, the best commuter?

The welcome ride organised by Bangalore Bikers is something all the members eagerly look forward to. The cherry on the cake was R.T.Krishna Auto generously offering us to test-ride two of their motorcycles for this ride, the Hero Xtreme 200S and the Hero Xtreme 160R. I was overjoyed at getting an opportunity to ride one of their new launches, Hero Xtreme 160R. The location for the welcome ride was indisputably remarkable. The route was perfect in challenging the potential of this motorcycle, with diverse terrains and traffic conditions.

One of the premium commuter motorcycles, Hero Xtreme 160R, is easy to handle and fun to ride in the city, making it a great everyday motorcycle. It has sufficient power to pull ahead in the city traffic and comfortably cruise at 80-85kmph on the highways. Sunday’s welcome ride took us through winding roads, villages, off-road and eventually the six-lane highway. Weighing approximately 139kg, Hero Xtreme 160R boasts nimble handling and lighter steering that made my life easy at the off road stretches to reach the picturesque Bikkanapalli Falls near Rayakottai. On returning to Bangalore, the light clutch and smooth gear made sure my hand was at ease in the heavy traffic. The soft-sprung shocks made the small potholes go unnoticed. Hero Xtreme 160R is sufficiently good at winding roads. Despite the weather getting unbearably hot by midday, it was unperturbed, through the long stretch of continuous riding, and had absolutely no heating issues.

It would be the best possible motorcycle for college students to cruise with their girlfriends. This may not be the best ride to take your mother to grocery-store, due to the marginally higher set rear footpegs and seats.

An increasing number of motorcycles in the 150-160cc segment has made competition tough. Hero Xtreme 160R is an ideal motorcycle for a beginner with 15 bhp and 14Nm torque that does not intimidate a new rider. At the same time, it has sufficient power to have your share of fun. Slip through bumper-to-bumper traffic at a lower speed with Hero’s new Auto Sail technology. The inverted LCD console is crisp with essential information like RPM, two trip meters, time, tacho etc. First of its kind in the segment, Hero Xtreme 160R comes with the side stand engine cutoff. The positioning of the switches on the handlebars is very convenient and feels familiar. The hazard switch is an appropriate inclusion, and all lights are LED units.
